Elementary Staff

MEET OUR AMAZING ELEMENTARY STAFF AT CUMBERLAND VALLEY VIRTUAL ACADEMY!

We asked them to tell us something interesting about themselves that most people wouldn't know and their favorite thing about teaching virtually! Here is what they had to say...

Mrs. Good

MRS. GOOD - KINDERGARTEN

  •  I spend as much of my time as I can fostering, training, rescuing and volunteering to help dogs in need
  •  I love to be the voice for those who do not have one!
  • Virtual teaching has taught me many things! My favorite thing has been the connections that you are able to make with students through this platform and seeing the growth they can achieve learning in a way that is engaging to them!

Mrs. Cookus

MRS. COOKUS - FIRST GRADE

  • I am one of ten children.  I have four brothers and five sisters.
  •  My favorite thing about virtual teaching is that I can still form the same bonds online that I did in person! My class was very close and learned a lot about each other and formed many wonderful friendships.

Mrs. Rodriguez

MRS. RODRIGUEZ - FIRST GRADE

  • I won fiddle competitions in the bluegrass band I was in.
  •  I love getting to know the families, siblings, and kids.  I love seeing where they live, their cultural festivities and what toys make them happy!

robinson2

MRS. ROBINSON - SECOND GRADE

  • I grew up on an apple orchard in Central NY.  Our family owned and ran Just-a-mere-farm. I worked in the store, selling 27 different varieties of apples and even used the cider press sometimes!
  • My favorite part of teaching virtually is creating and trying new technology with the students.  I love that we can learn together and have fun with these sites, apps, and games.

 Mrs. Wagner

MRS. WAGNER - SECOND GRADE

  • I've lived in three different countries and visited seven different countries. I've also taught Elementary School in two countries and five different school districts, as our family moved around throughout my husband's military career.
  • I love working together with my class to explore new ways to be creative and have fun with virtual learning.

Mrs. Zeaser

MRS. ZEASER - THIRD GRADE

  • While Chick-fil-a will always be my fast food restaurant of choice, I was on a McDonalds commercial when I was younger.
  • I found that the connections you can build virtually are so strong, and I love getting to know my student and seeing them do well. That, and being able to control the thermostat in my classroom!

hammell

MRS. HAMMEL - THIRD GRADE

  • I biked around an active volcano in Hawaii.
  •  My favorite thing about virtual learning is trying out new technology and ideas.

baker

MR. BAKER - FOURTH GRADE

  • I'm always interested in trying new things.
  •  The excitement of learning something new and developing it to it's greatest potential.

Savage

MS. SAVAGE - FOURTH GRADE

  • I love to collect blue and white porcelain. It started with a few pieces from my Nana and Mother, and now is an obsession. My entire house is blue and white.
  • Last year, I was amazed at how easily we were able to form meaningful relationships with our students, despite being on a zoom screen.
  • I also love when the students show me new and different ways to use technology within our virtual classroom setting.
  • The virtual field trips were fun too. I am so excited to welcome a new group of 4th graders into our classroom this coming year!

Mrs. Warner

MRS. WARNER - FIFTH GRADE

  • I am a dog enthusiast and Mama to six adorable chihuahuas. I would love to operate a chihuahua rescue after retirement.
  •  I love searching for new strategies to deliver content to students in an engaging way and then enjoy the satisfaction of watching the kids learn while having fun.

Lmontanez

 MRS. MONTANEZ-FIFTH GRADE

  • I can haul a twenty-eight foot camper, memorize just about any song on the radio, and speak fluent Pig Latin!
  •  My favorite thing about teaching virtual is getting to connect with students in their home environment. I love being able to meet pets,  siblings, and learn about student hobbies.  Some of these things aren't feasible in a traditional face to face classroom setting.
  • The virtual environment allows for more one-on-one student/teacher connection time, which is so valuable to an authentic learning experience.
